The Gospel

Gospel Message: God is the Gospel

Man needs perfect righteousness to meet right standing with his perfectly Holy God.

Man has a Radically Sinful Nature (Rom 1:28–29; 8:4–5; Gal 5:13)

Rom 3:10As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

12They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Man is Hostile to God and Separated from God (Rom 5:10; Eph 2:12–13)

Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Man is Under God’s Wrath (John 3:36; Rom 1:18; 5:9; Gal 3:10)

This means fundamentally that God’s anger toward us because of our God-dishonoring sin (Rom 3:23) must change.

John  3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Man cannot pay his own debt (Ps 49:7)

Psalm 49:7 No one can redeem the life of another
or give to God a ransom for them—
8 the ransom for a life is costly,
no payment is ever enough—[for a person to save themselves]

God’s provision of perfect righteousness is by Jesus Christ alone–and accessed only by grace through faith In Jesus Christ

This is called Justification / “The Great Exchange”

Christ lived a sinless life (Matt 3:15)

He paid God’s wrath (Rom 3:25)

-in doing this He averted it from us

Romans 3:25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

He paid our punishment (Gal 3:13; 1 Pet 2:24)

1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

He covers us with His righteousness (2 Cor 5:21)

2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

-this is all accessed by faith alone (Romans 3:21–28)

God’s provision was to enable right standing for sinners before God–to bring us to Himself.

The Ultimate Good of the Gospel is God Himself 2 Cor 4:4; Ps 70:4

Psalm 70:4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

I Peter 3:18a “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God.”

There are benefits that flow from trusting Christ as your Savior: forgiveness of sins, peace with God in Christ, eternity in heaven, etc. but these are all parts of one overarching wonderful truth. Accepting Christ as your Savior (i.e. getting saved or becoming a Christian) means that we get to know GOD (the Triune God). We are made right with Him and we get to learn from Him and enjoy Him forever.
